Who We Are

The Hudson Valley SPCA is a unique shelter: Not only do we provide the only no-kill facility in the Newburgh, New York area, but we are also the only source of humane law enforcement in Orange County. Our dedicated team of volunteers shelter, protect and defend animals, and actively seek out loving homes that will care for those animals for the rest of their lives.

The Hudson Valley SPCA functions with three goals in mind:

• To lead the fight against animal abuse in Orange County through our Humane Law Enforcement division;

• To identify appropriate and sustainable homes for every animal we place; and

• To provide a caring, healthy, rehabilitative environment for every animal in our care until such a home can be found.

The Hudson Valley SPCA does not receive funds from federal, state or local municipalities. Nor is it funded by the national organization, the ASPCA. Our work is funded solely by donations from our supporters.
When you donate to the Hudson Valley SPCA, you can be sure that your contribution is used wisely. Over 75% of donations go directly to animal care, while remaining funds go to support services.
The Hudson Valley SPCA is a registered 501(c)3. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Real Rescue Stories

Cutie... On a dismal afternoon in February, the
HVSPCA received several disturbing phone calls
about a dog abandoned in Newburgh's Downing
Park. Three staff members rushed to the park,
and found Cutie, then 10 months old, waiting to
die in a pile of snow. The pitbull mix was so
weak from starvation she could not even hold
her head up. But she managed to muster the
energy to give a friendly lick to the face of the person who scooped her into her arms. Cutie was rushed to Middlehope Veterinary Hospital, where she was nursed back to health over several weeks. With the help of our generous supporters, we were able to raise the funds needed to pay for her recovery. And within four months, we found Cutie a forever home where she is enjoying her life today!

Homer... Neighbors tell us that Homer clung
to life on the side of a road in Cornwall for two
days before we were called to rescue him.
When we finally arrived, we found the 2-3 year
old tabby, thought to be an abandoned pet, with
a fractured skull and severe injuries to his
mouth. We took Homer to the vet, where he
spent two weeks in critical care. Once he
stabilized, Homer was brought to the HVSPCA shelter to make a full recovery. Under the care of shelter staff, Homer healed and his friendly, laid back personality came out. Not long after his brush with death, Homer was adopted into a family who provides him with the tender loving care that he deserves!
